Forbes Hare opens a new office in Hong Kong
Forbes Hare has opened an office in Hong Kong, boosting its presence in Asia and augmenting its existing Singapore office. The offshore firm is the largest BVI and Cayman Islands firm which does not already have a foreign law office in the Special Administrative Region.
The move, which follows approval from the Hong Kong Law Society, sees managing partner William Hare relocating to Hong Kong with colleagues Richard Baird (who will head the new office) and Fleur O’Driscoll. All three have significant prior experience of the Hong Kong market, and many years’ experience living and working in the offshore Caribbean.
Announcing the development, William Hare said: “We have been slightly delayed by the pandemic, but we are delighted finally to have a physical presence in this dynamic city. Demand for BVI and Cayman Islands legal services in Hong Kong continues to grow across all areas of our practice, and we look forward to providing an exceptional service to clients old and new from our office in Quarry Bay.”
Forbes Hare (Hong Kong) LLP will advise on the full spectrum of contentious, non-contentious and advisory offshore work. Forbes Hare is well-known for its market-leading disputes and restructuring practices and the Hong Kong office will, from the outset, contain practitioners with significant experience of cross-border restructuring and insolvency, investment fund disputes, listed company disputes, general corporate and shareholder disputes, banking and financial services litigation, trusts litigation and fraud and asset tracing.
Richard Baird said: “I am proud to lead Forbes Hare’s expansion in this thriving business hub. The opening of our Hong Kong office marks a new chapter for Forbes Hare in Asia and complements our existing offering in Singapore. Our teams in Hong Kong and Singapore will ensure that our clients in Asia have access to market-leading legal practitioners who are in the same time zone.”
The launch of Forbes Hare (Hong Kong) LLP augments Forbes Hare’s Asia offering, following the opening of its Singapore office in 2015. The firm has offices in the British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands, and representative (foreign law) offices in London and Singapore.
Forbes Hare has associated relationships with law firms across the Eastern Caribbean, and regularly provides legal advice and representation in other Caribbean jurisdictions where its lawyers have practising rights. This regularly involves matters in Anguilla, Nevis, St Kitts and the Caribbean Court of Justice.
Through its associated services businesses, Forbes Hare provides a range of trust, corporate and fiduciary services to clients of the firm.
